Paris Fashion Week 2019.

Posted By: UBEDIES ARTESANÍA In: Exposiciones y Stands On: martes, agosto 18, 2020

On September 30, 2019, the creator Jienense Leandro Cano presented his spring-summer 2020 collection under the name “OFRENDA”, at Paris Fashion Week, in which Ubedies Artesanía collaborated with the realization of the “Children fighting”, made in pita and using various production techniques typical of our craft, and others that we have had to invent.

The location of this presentation has been the Embassy of Spain in Paris.

Leandro Cano defends that craftsmanship is the new luxury and represents it in his collection "OFRENDA", with eight "bodies" made by many other artisans, among them Ubedies, who have made the piece:

"Children fighting" is the story of the gypsies of the Sacromonte of Granada, brought to art from the mind of Leandro and our hands, it is inspired by the documentary "Flamenco, meeting with the Spanish gypsies" (1962) made by the Swedes Lennart Olson and Dan Grenholm, an objective look at flamenco culture, who after passing through Leandro's creative world represents the image of a day in the Sacromonte in the sixties.

This work allows us to delve into the inner world of Leandro, and play with our materials within the imagination of this great designer.

Kingdom of Jaén Award, Resurgence of Tradition 2018

Posted By: UBEDIES ARTESANÍA In: Awards and honours. On: martes, agosto 11, 2020

A work started in Úbeda in the 11th century and lost in the 16th century after Christ, until now. The art of “ubedi” esparto rugs is a discipline that emerged precisely in the World Heritage city - hence the name it receives - but that the inexhaustible passage of time ended up making them disappear. However, there is a family in Úbeda willing to recover the products and artisan manufacturing of yesteryear to work this vegetable fiber by hand; being its totally ecological production and its biodegradable waste. They are the brothers Pedro and Jesús Blanco Ubalde.

Converted into the sixth generation of esparto artisans in their family, these heirs of the tradition are all connoisseurs of the history of this trade and the changes it has undergone over the years. And it was his great-uncle, Pedro Vera, before 1900 who began to make handmade esparto for the domestic sphere. Later, the grandfather, Pedro Blanco Vera, began with his uncle in the knowledge of esparto in 1914, when he was 7 years old, he opened his own shop-workshop in 1939. The father, Enrique Blanco Martínez, resumed work in 1967, until Currently, the grandchildren are in charge of maintaining this piece of Úbeda's art and history with their Ubedíes Artesanía workshop.

This family works with the esparto grass of Sierra Mágina, making the famous 11th century Ubedi rugs, typical of the Úbeda area and whose manufacture was rescued by their grandfather after many years in oblivion. Nowadays, Pedro and Jesús Blanco recover other products and the artisanal manufacture of them to work this vegetable fiber by hand, being its production totally ecological. Bags, jewelery, hats, blinds, basketry and other objects of decorative use such as animals made in pita and life-size.

For his creations he uses raw esparto, crushed esparto, as well as other materials and techniques such as pita / sisal, jute, raffia or wool, which allow him to fully personalize both the articles that we find in his store and those pieces that he makes to order. A profession of yesteryear that they have managed to reconvert to position it in a highly visible place on the national scene, obtaining great awards and recognitions such as Richard H. Driehaus, awards for the Arts of Construction in the category Finishes and other construction works traditional.

At Ubedíes Artesanía they work hand in hand with designers such as Leandro Cano or Juan Carlos Quesada, Pedro Blanco assures that it is now when he is “beginning” to value the dedication of this artisan work.

Leandro Cano and Ubedies Crafts, fashion and vegetable fiber.

Posted By: UBEDIES ARTESANÍA In: Exposiciones y Stands On: jueves, julio 16, 2020

In June 2018, Ubedies Artesanía collaborated again with fashion designer Leandro Cano, in a mystical setting, where the soul is filled with silence, a place of recollection very appropriate to see the beauty of Leandro's works, accompanied by our humble pamelas.

The pamelas are made of pita and bamboo, different fibers, worked with different techniques, which accompany the designs of this great fashion artist, some give lightness and transparency although they are made with the heaviest fiber, the others are dense but very light.

This is the magic of Leandro and it is our privilege to accompany him with our crafts, in these imaginations that he creates.

VERTICAL NAUTILUS OF ESPARTO, PITA, IRON AND WOOD: NATURE AND EUCLIDIAN GEOMETRY.

Posted By: UBEDIES ARTESANÍA In: Awards and honours. On: martes, julio 14, 2020

Realized by: Ubedies Artesanía, a family business dedicated to the Craft of Esparto grass and other vegetable fibers since the end of the 19th century. In addition to making all the typical uses of esparto grass and other vegetable fibers, such as mats, blinds, basketry, etc., we commercially make the Ubedies Carpets, born in Úbeda in the 11th century, always made with a soguilla or esparto braid; It does not arrive in the middle of the 20th century, when they also start to be made in pita soguilla. All the materials used in our crafts come from the earth and their waste is biodegradable and respectful with nature, we also keep alive the artisan techniques of yesteryear. Ubedies are currently innovating in new products, materials, designs, sales techniques, social networks, etc., updating our crafts to the needs of today's society; but without ceasing to make the ancient uses of this art.

NAUTILUS

Work based on the Nautilus, made with the Fibonacci spiral formula, many structures present in nature, correspond to mathematical models, and in particular with geometric shapes.

Appreciating in this Nautilus the Fibonacci number sequence, and in particular the golden number. Harmony, mathematics, art and nature appear in the shell of the Nautilus and its divine proportion.

According to Euclid, the golden number has the most beautiful or divine and harmonic proportion that we humans perceive, this almost perfect correspondence is found in the human body, in music, in nature, in architecture, etc., so that the number resulting from this relationship (1.618034) it is called the "golden or divine number"

Both the work with the esparto grass (30,000 years old, according to archaeological remains found in February 2016 in the Cueva de Ardales, in Málaga) and geometry have been linked to the evolution of humanity, this work is the union of the art of esparto grass and geometric science. In this work, artisan tradition, pure mathematics, vegetable fiber and the evolution of a multitude of people are merged, who over time have created, experienced and transmitted their knowledge in matters of crafts, mathematics, nature, ... aimed at creating this piece. With this spiral or Nautilus made of esparto grass, pita, iron and wood, we want to show human evolution, which like the Nautilus shell grows proportionally in sensations, knowledge, emotions, experiences, etc.

Likewise and as life teaches us, the iron (material that supports the nautilus of vegetable fibers) that seems stronger than esparto surprises us since when sewing this crude vegetable fiber, with the friction of metal and esparto the needles become they heat up so much that they become bent and sometimes break, so tempered steel needles have to be used, The whole piece has an olive wood base, paying homage to our Andalusia and our culture of the olive grove, so related to esparto grass by spurs, serones, "agüaeras", barjas or capachas, capachos for the olive press, etc. ., parts used in our fields since time immemorial. Those who have had a relationship with the field more than once will have heard "bring the pleitas" addressing the esparto pleita gates.

Technical data:

Measurements: 1 m. high x 0.30 m. x 0.30 m.

Weight: 5.5 kg. Technique: assembly and sewing with the Ubedies Carpet technique.

Materials: Esparto grass, soguilla of pita, jute thread, iron (needle that supports the piece), olive wood (base of the piece).

Year: 2017
